Javanese massage

This signature massage therapy draws its inspiration from a three centuries-old massage tradition amongst the Javanese Royalties. It has been the main treatment for maintaining their health and well-being. The Javanese massage is an intense, medium to strong deep tissue massage on your whole body in which the therapist uses wonderful long strokes on skin slathered with oil.

We have had the honor to learn this unique technique from the best source available, namely our dear friend Cassie Lim. Cassie studied this massage technique in The House of Traditional Javanese Massage in Singapore and has generously passed her knowledge onto us.

The Javanese massage relies on deep thumb pressure which is accompanied with simultaneous stroking palm movements, kneading and knuckling to break down tensely knotted muscles and to stimulate the body's lymphatic system into releasing its self regenerative power. A great attention is paid to the scents used in the massage oil. Common scents such as Fennel and Sandalwood, along with more exotic scents like Patchouli and Lemongrass, are assisting in relaxation, body indulgence and stress relief.

The main essence of the Javanese massage lies in the belief that the body accumulates air or 'winds', which result in congestion, flu or rheumatism. Hence the “wind” is toxic and should be purged. By exerting pressure and applying special strokes, the “winds” are flushed out of the body. This massage is effective in reducing cellulite, improving blood circulation and increasing energy flow.

Furthermore, the Javanese massage aims to help with a wide range of ailments, including migraine, muscle and joint pain, sleep disorder, anxiety or depression. Most importantly, the Javanese massage carries compassion in the hand and puts the touch back into your being.
